Children get very excited with the idea of making and decorating their own personal drums to take home.  Peter Jarvis has created over 2000 drums over the past few years with children in schools and large festivals.  He has lead workshops for The Toronto Board of Education and The Mississauga International Children's Festival.

THE RITUAL OF CREATING A DRUM

The ritual of creating a drum begins with the students writing a secret wish for the earth on the inside of their drum.  Every time they play it, the wish is sent out to the world in sound.  The children then decorate their instrument with images that reinforce its power for change.  The drum is built with quality materials and minimal mess is left for clean-up.  The drum is,

  waterproof, easily repaired, not loud!

Within one hour a class of 30 students can complete their drums with decorative metaphor and receive simple instruction on how to play this sweetly tonal instrument.
